|Iraq Veteran denied health care, commits suicide
From the Star Tribune: This Marine's death came after he served in IraqTwo weeks ago, Schulze went to the VA hospital in St. Cloud. He told a staff member he was thinking of killing himself, and asked to be admitted to the mental health unit, said his father and stepmother, who accompanied him. They said he was told he couldn't be admitted that day. The next day, as he spoke to a counselor in St. Cloud by phone, he was told he was No. 26 on the waiting list, his parents said.
Four days later, Schulze, 25, committed suicide in his New Prague home. Edited

, I looked for it in the print edition. Hmm... the story was filed 1/26 (on the web) but didn't appear until today. Still, to give credit where credit is due, it made the front page of Saturday's paper (the least read).
Bush continues to sweep dead bodies under the rug, usually aided and abetted by the right-wing press. No flag-draped coffins (except in ads for Republican candidates), veterans benefits slashed, lowered recruitment levels are "met". My father's old division, the 82nd Airborne, is on it's way to Iraq in the current escalation. I wonder what he would make of the incompetence and corruption at the top today. He would have a lot to say... I'm glad this one bubbled to the surface.
