Fringe 2012: A good fifth show
With two shows remaining on our 5-pass, Carole and I had scheduled then had to miss shows on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday was the charm, and charm it was.

Rip

Rip Van Winkle Reimagined, Part I (I hope)

xxxx

I have a feeling Washington Irving would approve of the update to his 18th-century tale (which he borrowed in the first place) and Jean-Jacques Rousseau would approve even more. Rip van Winkle's 1952 suburban life is stable and lovely and boring. Then there are songs, a dog, more songs, Henry Hudson and more songs. The dog is in the original, and the New York State setting is referenced by Hudson, but everything else is inventive and superbly done. I hope this is Fringe version of a soon-to-be-longer piece. Even the audience participation worked. Rough around the edges, but the young cast is terrific. A solid four stars. Maybe five for a longer staging (hint hint). A Shockwave Radio Theater Review.
