Slightly Less Preliminary Fringe Schedule

Geeze, I tried not to see too many shows... and failed.

Last year, I saw 45 Fringes. 49 if you count the dress rehearsals, which I do. This year I've seen several rehearsals but not dress rehearsals, so don't feel I can make salient comments, though they're slightly lower on my list for having seen much of the project.

You may follow along by visiting my Minnesota Fringe Festival page, where I add videos and audio files as created. Remember that the current photo gallery is also being added to.

For the most part, today and tomorrow and likely Saturday are pretty much set. I'll be adding to the 32 *shudder* shows as the week goes on. My goal: Don't be burnt out. Hence the concentration of shows by venue.

My "Must Sees" in bold with other highly anticipated shows in italic. Priorities change a lot.

Thursday, August 4
5:30 p.m. Mother Tongues Core Project Chicago Lab
7:00 p.m. Violet Dreams & Unlisted Melodies Poetic Rebound Performance Company Lab
8:30 p.m. You Only Live Forever Once Four Humors Theater Bryant-Lake Bowl
10:00 p.m. Lot O' Shakespeare Timothy Mooney Repertory Theatre Bryant-Lake Bowl

Both of the Lab shows gave great performances at the Ootiefest, and I'd already had "Mother Tongues" listed, so just stayed for the next. Four Humors and Tim Mooney are longtime favorites.

Friday, August 5
5:30 p.m. The Smothers Brothers Grimm Comedy Suitcase U of M Rarig Thrust
7:00 p.m. Brain Fighters Joking Envelope U of M Rarig Thrust
8:30 p.m. Robot Lincoln: The Revengeance (The Musical) OT Pro-Ductions U of M Rarig Thrust
10:00 p.m. Macbeth: The Video Game Remix Theatre Arlo U of M Rarig Thrust

The comedy shows are fairly highly anticipated, but I could reschedule some other time, but feel tomorrow is a Rarig Day. "Robot Lincoln", completely off my radar, gave a great excerpt at the Ootiefest: A love song between Robot Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth. See picture gallery for others involved.

Saturday, August 6
1:00 p.m. Luke Comes to Life Charakter Ministry of the Arts U of M Rarig Arena
2:30 p.m. Buckets and Tap Shoes 10 Foot 5 Productions U of M Rarig Proscenium
5:30 p.m. HERO: A New Musical RawRedmeat Productions U of M Rarig Xperimental
7:00 p.m. 7 (x1) Samurai David Gaines Productions U of M Rarig Proscenium
8:30 p.m. Minnesota Middle Finger Ben San Del Presents Theatre in the Round

Ben is always a lot of fun. I liked the Samurai excerpt at the Ootiefest more than Carole did: One person doing all the roles of the Kurosawa movie (including horses). dreamshark might like "Luke Comes to Life, since it's one person performing the Gospel of St. Luke, ala "Gilgamesh" of previous Fringes. I keep missing "Buckets and Tap Shoes", and really should catch it.

Sunday, August 7
1:00 p.m. A Good-Natured Gut LS Dance Collaborative Lab
2:30 p.m. Fletcher & Zenobia Save the Circus (by Edward Gorey) Live Action Set Mill City Museum
4:00 p.m. Those Were the Days: A Tribute to Television Themes Blue Umbrella Productions Theatre Garage
10:00 p.m. Change Agent Savaali Bryant-Lake Bowl

I'll see anything by Live Action Set ("Please Don't Blow Up Mr. Boban" etc). I was at a rehearsal for the TV Themes show; fun a shade less of a priority. "Change Agent" is by the same guy who did last year's "That Sara Aziz", exploring Muslim women in today's male-dominated, Christian US.

Monday, August 8
5:30 p.m. Taiko Blast! Mu Performing Arts Mixed Blood
7:00 p.m. Disney Dethroned: Snowcahontas and the Tangled FrogBeast Tom Reed Mixed Blood
8:30 p.m. Balls Out! Late Night Menu Mixed Blood

Last year's Taiko show, Tibetan drumming, was a surprise hit for me last year. "Balls Out" gave an interesting excerpt at the Fringe-For-All. Even though the FFAs aren't always a good predictor, you've got to start someplace.

Tuesday, August 9
5:30 p.m. Camelot is Crumbling: An Arthurian Nightmare Maximum Verbosity Bryant-Lake Bowl
8:30 p.m. Dancing with Death Smiling Lune Intermedia Arts
10:00 p.m. Something's Gone Wrong in the Dreamhouse Scream Blue Murmur Intermedia Arts

Old favorites come back, including Northern Ireland's Scream Blue Murmur

Wednesday, August 10
5:30 p.m. Callahan and Lingo presents: The Last Ditch ACM Productions U of M Rarig Arena
8:30 p.m. Indignorance BS Productions U of M Rarig Arena

Thursday, August 11
5:30 p.m. William Shakespeare's Rape of Lucrece American Shakespeare Repertory Theatre in the Round
7:00 p.m. Longing for Qeej Pan Asian Arts Alliance and MN Sunshine Dance U of M Rarig Proscenium

Friday, August 12
4:00 p.m. John Dingley and the Biggest Pack of Lies You Ever Heard John Dingley Augsburg Studio
5:30 p.m. Highlander: The Musical! Rooftop Theatre Co. Augsburg Mainstage

Saturday, August 13
2:30 p.m. Tortoise in Flight Third Rabbit Dance U of M Rarig Proscenium
10:00 p.m. History Camp Zombie High School Mixed Blood

Sunday, August 14
1:00 p.m. Improvidence! Infinitely Spectacular Productions Lab

Well, that should hold you. Heck, it might hold Carole and me. I'll see how burnt out I feel on Sunday before tinkering too much with next week.
